Papergirl Istanbul Project- Wait for May 2011... then grab your Bikes & Baskets everyone, it's time to Roll & Ride, LET'S GO! yippie!

So...what is Papergirl anyway?

Papergirl is, in essence, a mail-art and delivery systems art project that is participatory, analogue, non-commercial, and impulsive.

Submitted artwork is distributed like a newspaper but not edited or printed like it, the artwork is rolled up into bundles of 5 pieces or more and thrown to passers-by from bicycles. Art submissions are sent in by mail or handed in personally and are all shown in a gallery setting before being sorted, rolled up, and distributed. There are no guidelines as to format, subject matter, or quantity one can submit. So originals, prints, photos, copies etc. come together, meaning that each roll holds a unique combination of works. Anything can be submitted: prints, photos, drawings, paintings, zines, writings, textiles, etc. The only requirement is that the art be flexible enough to be rolled up, we won’t be throwing any stretched canvases around.

The art pieces aren’t selected for Papergirl, we use everything that is submitted, so the artists decide what to show and have given away in distribution. The art rolls cannot be sold and are not delivered to subscribers, anyone who catches a roll is lucky, and money can’t buy luck! Throwing the work from a moving bike means there is no time for any stereotypes when choosing recipients of the art rolls, as distributors often have to react fast and spontaneously.

Everyone can participate by submitting art, telling others about the project, helping with gallery set up and roll preparation, hosting workshops and skill shares, and/or by helping with the bicycle distribution. All are welcome and encouraged to get their hands dirty with Papergirl!

Art rolling and bicycle distribution

With over 1700 pieces of art, we will need a hefty team to roll all of it. Please join us in preparing the art rolls for distribution! We'll fill you in on all the necessary rolling details when you arrive bright and early. This process could take an hour, it could take 2, it depends on how many volunteers show up and how efficient we are.

The bicycle distribution will take place immediately after we finish the art rolling, as soon as we're done we'll all be briefed by our ride guides and leaders, load up, and roll out to throw art freely to the public!

Sunday, May 28th on İstiklal Avenue

Sunday, June 11th on Caddebostan Coast

Depending on how quickly we can roll, the ride will start between 11am and noon. We defiantly plan to be out by noon however, as the ride will probably take us at least 2 hours to complete.

well, for sure, i am not gonna do it with "art and crap".. so here is the idea: why not being everything that i wanted to be, only on canvas?

And here we go again: after several months, the first big-size painting of mine. Here you see some details of the whole, weather (stupid weather!) doesn’t allow me to shoot it professionally, I believe.

It has been an amount of time to decide, nearly a month to search and couple of weeks to realise it.

A complete disaster considering what I thought it to be, but yeah, better than nothing. I recently realized that all of the paintings I don’t like, gives me new ideas of what I should do next.

It’s like relationships, y’know?

First piece of the brand new series “my roots”, I hope you like it.

And that’s my mom, by the way.

I think of things to share with you. I can’t find something. Then I thought, maybe, only daily impressions? –yeah, that should work.

Here is a photo of what I see now, next to a mid-november day’s impression long ago, miles away.

It goes well with this song. Actually it goes great.

There is the most creepy weather outside and after a night with sweet dreams of snow and a beautiful life, the rain outside just stinks. I am usually good with being inside with a coffee mug watching outside, even running like a dummy with rain wetting my face and all that.

I kinda choose the coffee mug today, thanks.

Making plans for the night, are strictly forbidden on a day like this. But I still do. I kinda love it, this whole “trying to have fun” thing. Music helps.

long time since my last update. i have my alibi. some various combinations of luck and coincidence made me find myself in the middle of tunisian sahara- which was, definitely, a mind-blowing experience.

my new obsession "foot journals" gained a much wider point of view in between all of those amazingly new and unexpectable scenes i saw and got-along-well there: in a place that even the idea of "grounds" are delightful, i started to think i could join the scenes with the ground, which is the most superficial proof that i was there at that indispensable moment.

you see, i've been through the desert on the camel with no name, and it felt good to be out of the rain. now there's pouring rain in istanbul on my roof.

some conversations and mood-changes tonight took me approximately 2500 kilometers away from where i am. i am not proud to say i missed it, but i am also not ashamed. i am only sharing. bottoms up, gezondheid!

last month was completely filled with volunteer work in the international jazzfest istanbul. mind-blowing. working everyday and lots of hours, i think it became a temporary lifestyle- i noticed yesterday boozing with a friend long-time-no-see, when i talked and talked (only about it).

so, as a thankful and mnemophobic giftie tribute to short-term jazz days. woo hoo.
